One unique challenge of this job was the steep grade BHT had to navigate to bring the turbine pieces and crawler crane to the site. The road was at a 8-10% grade, a level at which some of our traditional hauling equipment isn’t cleared for. This meant our BHT team utilized their two new Goldhofer trailers for the job.
BRAGG COMPANIES WIND TURBINE BUILD OUT
Bragg Companies prides itself on the strength and collaboration of our three central divisions: Crane Service, Crane & Rigging, and Heavy Transport. By having each of these service areas under our company umbrella on one project, what we call turnkey service, we can ensure we provide superior service at all stages of a project. This was on display recently during a project in Tehachapi, California to build out a 360,000 pound Vestas wind turbine grossing 612,000 pounds total.
Bragg Heavy Transport (BHT) delivered the components of the wind turbines to their new site using two of our Prime Movers as well as two Goldhofer trailers. This included tower sections, blades, hubs and nacelles. BHT also hauled all of our crawler crane components to the site for Bragg Crane Service (BCS).
From there, BCS operators hoisted the turbines using an LR 1750. Bragg Crane & Rigging (BCR) then took all of the previously hauled components and set them up in the towers location.
